1. What cookies are

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Some are needed for the site to work; others track behaviour and require your consent.

2. The cookies we set

Only strictly necessary ones: what the site needs to work, and what keeps you signed in to your account so your licence can be shown to you. There are no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking cookies.

During checkout, our payment processor (Stripe) may set its own cookies to process the payment and prevent fraud. Those are governed by the processor's own policies.

3. How we count visits, without cookies

We measure aggregate traffic and page performance with Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights, run by the company that hosts this site, and aggregate traffic with Google Analytics.

All three are cookieless here. Google Analytics is loaded with its consent signals set to denied and we never grant them, which is the setting that stops it writing a cookie or reading anything from your device; the two Vercel tools never had one. None of them stores an identifier on your device, none builds a profile of you, and none carries anything that follows you to other websites. What we see is aggregate: how many people opened a page, roughly where in the world they were, which link sent them, and how fast the page loaded. That is how we know which parts of the site are unclear, and it is the reason you are not being asked to dismiss a consent banner.

The trade we accept for that is accuracy: with no cookie to recognise you, a second visit is counted as a new one. We would rather undercount returning readers than set something on your device to tell them apart.

This is the website only. The Troth app itself has no analytics and no telemetry: it does not report what you do with it, and its own privacy behaviour is described in the Privacy Policy.

4. If that ever changes

If we ever add a tool that stores or reads anything on your device for a non-essential purpose — advertising, cross-site measurement, session recording — we will ask for your consent before it loads, and it will be listed here first.

5. Managing cookies

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site, sign-in, or checkout from working.

6. Changes

We may update this notice. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last changed at the top.
